Matt Brandau attended UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated with a BS in Music Performance. While in school Matt dove heavily into jazz and ran a legendary jam session at Henry’s Bistro where he played with some of NC’s finest, including Branford and Ellis Marsalis, Donald Byrd and Herbie Hancock. During this time he was also the bassist in the Chapel Hill hip-hop band Sankofa, and was on tour with The Roots, Outkast, Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot performing all over the US, sometimes to crowds upwards of 20,000.
After college he hung around Chapel Hill playing in the thriving music scene. He built a recording studio in his home and started recording his bands. He toured the US, Europe and Canada with THE OLD CEREMONY, and backed up DJ Premier and Pete Rock in THE REMIX PROJECT he recorded The Old Ceremony’s debut album and also produced a dance remix of that album- THE OLD CEREMONY REMIXED
Since moving to NYC, Matt became a fixture in the local music scene and performed with Elvis Costello, Jewel, Joan Osbourne, and Sarah Lee Guthrie. He’s also produced and recorded several original groups and scored a web series for NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC.
